FURTHER sound problems and the intense heat couldn't dampen LIAM and NOEL GALLAGHER's enthusiasm on the opening night of Benicassim festival in Spain.

The infamous brothers were on banging form, giving lively banter to the full capacity crowd.

But last night did not come without problems, with the boys declaring the set "a shambles" due to persistent sound problems.

The third time the Manc legends have experienced major techincal problems at a gig since June.

Ironically it was during Wonderwall - same song as at Wembley on July 9 - where the sound totally cut out.

Halfway through Liam suddenly stopped singing and left the stage.

After letting the crowd complete their own rendition, Noel then started to play Whatever acoustically telling the crowd "I bet you don't know the words!"

But Liam appeared far from angry, smiling when he came back on to replay Wonderwall and then telling fans they should get their money back.

During the persisent silent pauses, Noel branded the noise in the nearby dance tent as "sh*t", before adding that nothing could compete with their set.

The band's older material got undoubtedly the biggest cheers of the night, with stand out tracks being Slide Away and Wonderwall.

With humidity levels sky high, Liam stepped off stage in his trademark trench coat looking like he'd been for a swim in the sea.

VIPs were given a pool backstage but Liam didn't have time to use it as the band were whisked away in police-taped cars seconds after walking off stage.

GLASVEGAS

IT'S a big job to follow Oasis - but Glasvegas managed to keep up momentum on the opening night with a 45-minute set which kicked off in the early hours.

JAMES ALLAN and co proved their exceptional talent, ripping through a mesmorising set heavily led by their chart-topping self-entitled album.

Decked out in their trademark black jeans, tee's and shades, the Scottish rockers had fans hooked from the start with Daddy's Gone and Geraldine.

It's My Own Cheating Heart that Makes Me Cry and Go Square Go also went down well.

And just in case anyone was still having Oasis withdrawal symptoms, the band - recent Biz Session guests - produced a cool cover of Whatever that the Gallagher brothers would have been proud of.

On a night which saw compatriots THE VIEW also take to the Main Stage, it was Glasvegas who pipped it - just.

THE VIEW

DUNDEE rockers The View kicked off the festival in style with a typically raucous and energetic set.

It was only 8.30pm but the boys looked like they had already sunk a few beers before wobbling onstage.

A translator might have been handy so fans could work out exactly what frontman KYLE FALCONER was saying inbetween songs in his strong Scottish twang.

However there was no mistaking their love for headliners Oasis as Kyle declared them "the best band in the world".

The set was a little hit and miss, with the crowd struggling to match the band's enthusiasm as they belted out some unfamiliar tracks.

However when they ended with a collection of more recognisable offerings such as Superstar Tradesman, Same Jeans and Wasted Little DJ's, fans danced merrily as the sun set for the night.
