Paul Lake: Comments From Fans Like Liam Gallagher Mean As Much As Medals And Money

Liam Gallagher gave Paul Lake the ultimate accolade when he suggested that he would fit neatly into today’s star-studded team.

“He could play for us now, man,” said the former Oasis front man and City fan of the Blues hero whose career was so cruelly cut short, just as he was poised on the brink of fame and fortune.

That comment, and the kind words of a thousand other City fans, mean as much to Lake as the medals and money which are showered on today’s top players.

He admits that, perhaps prompted by Gallagher’s kind words, he has had the occasional dream about putting on his boots again, and taking his place alongside Vincent Kompany.

“With us playing in the maroon kit on Sunday, it took me right back to when I played, because our old maroon kit was my favourite,” he said.

“There have been a couple of nights when I have been talking in my sleep, telling Jo to get a bit tighter, or pushing Micah on. That’s the City fan in me, though, not necessarily the former player!

“It was a wonderful thing for Liam to say, and being told things like that by fans is another reason why the money doesn’t really count, but comments like that do.”
