Noel Gallagher Confirms He's Writing For A New Monkees Album With Paul Weller

In an exclusive interview with theMusic.com.au this week, Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher confimed rumours he was penning a song with The Jam's Paul Weller, for an upcoming Monkees record.

Gallagher told us, "Yeah, they asked me to write a song and as luck would have it, I happened to have half a song lying around that I’d been writing with Paul Weller over the last couple of months and we sent it to them and they like it and we’ve now gotta go and finish it off, but we didn’t expect them to go and tell fucking the whole world that it was happening because now we have to finish it off."

The record, reportedly titled Good Times!, is due for release on 10 June to coincide with The Monkees' 50th anniversary. All three surviving members, Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork, are involved.

"I hope the second half’s as good as the first half. But me and Paul are very busy dudes. We’re all-conquering, ageing mods and, you know, it’s fucking hard to find the time sometimes," Gallagher continued.

NME reports that Weezer's Rivers Cuomo and Death Cab For Cutie's Ben Gibbard have also been writing for the project, making the record a collaboration between a slew of enigmatic frontmen. Cuomo's song is rumoured to be titled She Makes Me Laugh, while Gibbard is said to have written a track called Me & Magdalena.
